Sport & Fun away from the ski pistes

You want more; your winter holiday isn’t just about skiing; is freeriding, winter hiking or long days of skiing on the piste not enough to send you into raptures? Well we have even more winter sports for you. Ice climbing, cross-country skiing, tobogganing and much more ensure there are plenty of alternatives for you to keep an eye on. The Hohe Tauern National Park -region is just the right location for you and your family!

Ice climbing – vertical and frozen

When the wild waters in the Hohe Tauern National Park freeze in the winter and become majestic icefalls, a breath-taking winter realm is created; one difficult to top in terms of elegance. Ice climbing is for many people one of the great sporting challenges. Tackling sheer, frozen waterfalls under your own steam requires a great deal of training, courage and excellent technique. Anyone who wants to make this sport their own is best to head to the ice climbing park in Heiligenblut, or book a local mountain and climbing guide. You will soon be ready for a big adventure on the ice in the Hohe Tauern National Park region.

Tobogganing – speeding from the mountain into the valley

Compared to ice climbing, tobogganing is a winter sport which people of all ages can enjoy. When you and your children speed down from the mountain into the valley, there is certainly no shortage of fun – add to this the impressive natural surroundings which you see when you are hurtling down. Mallnitz, Flattach, Obervellach, Winklern, Rangersdorf and Heiligenblut are the tobogganing hubs in the Hohe Tauern National Park region. Some are floodlit, some shorter, some longer, with hire toboggans, transport and refreshment stops. More information here:
